Wang Hui (1632–1717), one of the Four Wangs and founder of the Yushan School, was a preeminent landscape painter of the early Qing Dynasty. Splendid and Lofty Peaks is a remarkable work highlighting his skill in depicting majestic mountain scenery.

The painting features towering, precipitous peaks, lush green vegetation, cascading waterfalls, and flowing clouds, creating a grand and elegant landscape. The composition is well‑structured with clear spatial layers, using refined brushwork and varied ink tones to capture the majesty and grace of extraordinary mountain forms.

Wang Hui integrated the monumental compositional techniques of Song landscape painting with the literati charm of Yuan traditions, achieving a perfect balance of grandeur and subtlety. This work exemplifies his mature achievement in orthodox landscape painting.
